Dexter Axle Closes Plant Here

The Dexter Axle plant in Monticello closed Monday, apparently without notice.

Calls to Dexter Axle in Elkhart, Ind. had not been returned by presstime yesterday.

According to what employees have said, the company said the closure would be for six months at which time they would re-evaluate the market demand and economy.

David Dyer, director of the Development Authority of Jasper County said he has contacted the other industries to let them know that people will be looking for jobs. He said some of the industries had already been contacted by potential employees.

Profile Products, Water, Wind and Soil, Metzger-Moore and Norton Packaging all have jobs available.
