Hilda Jane Hughes Benton
Hilda Jane Hughes Benton, age 90, of Gray, formerly of Monticello, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, at Lynn Haven Nursing Home.
Hilda Benton was born on November 13, 1931 in Milledgeville, Georgia to the late William Bunyan Hughes and Bertha Jane Martin Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Roscoe Benton in 2004; brother, William Edwin Hughes in 2018; and infant great grandson, Benton Lancaster.
Hilda Benton was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Monticello and attended Bradley Baptist Church in Gray. She worked for the Monticello Manufacturing Company for a number of years. She enjoyed sewing for the community, baked delicious cakes, especially her caramel cake and participated in the family business raising chickens. She volunteered at Piedmont Academy for a number of years.
Hilda Benton was married to Roscoe Benton for over fifty years. She loved her family and dogs.
She is survived by her children, Kay Benton Hayes of Sebring, Florida , Gary David Benton (Lynn Leggett) of Gray; and William Cleveland Benton (Bobbi McIntyre) of Gray Court, South Carolina; grandchildren, Dwayne (Tammy) Lancaster, Amy (Tim) Ferguson, Brent (Trisha) Lancaster, Gary David (Stacy) Benton, Jr., Daniel Jones Benton (Nikki Barnes), Josh Benton, Megan (Charles) Jones and Andrew Benton; great grandchildren, Katelyn Lancaster, Madison (Nevin) Durden, Mackenzie Cook, Mallory Cook, Brady Ferguson, Riley Ferguson, Caleb Ferguson, Grady Lancaster, Laynee Lancaster, Tacy Lancaster, Ethan Benton, Destiny Miller, Anslee Benton, Cade Benton, Vallee Smith, Holli Benton, Damien Jones, Nora Petrow, Hayden Petrow, Chaz Jones and Emma Grace Benton.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 3:00 P.M., at Williams Payne Cemetery. Rev. Danny Monday will officiate.
