James Edward Thurman, Sr.
A celebration of the life of James Edward Thurman, Sr. was held Monday, July 25, in the courtyard of Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, Monticello. Rev. Ricky Hammond, eulogist.
James Edward Thurman, Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on July 16, 2022.
He was born February 10, 1951 in Monticello, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Marion Thurman, Sr.
James grew up in Monticello, along with his six siblings. He went to Wisconsin at a young age when he joined the Job Corps. While he was there, he met his wife, Patsy. They raised their children, living between Wisconsin and Georgia throughout the years. James will be dearly missed by the countless people who knew and loved him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Thurman, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Mae Thurman and two brothers, Jessie Thurman and Rufus Thurman, Sr.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory: wife, Patsy Thurman; four children: daughter, Summer Mickens (Dante) of Orlando, Fla., son, Mario Burris-Thurman (Sonya) of Shady Dale, daughter, Audera Burris-Thurman of Beloit, Wisc. and son, James Thurman, Jr. (Beth) of Griffin; brother, Marion Thurman, Sr.; sisters, Annie Ruth Farrar, Margaret Ross-Walker (Vernon, Sr.) and Hazel Jeffries-Colbert (Alonzo) of Monticello; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends whom adored him.
