All Stars Are World Series Bound

Jasper County has great reason to be so very proud this week. A fine group of young men from Monticello have joined together after this year’s recreation baseball season as the All-Stars Team for the 15U division. This team will now be representing Georgia in the Dixie Boys 15U World Series Tournament in Sterlington, La.

The Dixie League is one of seven national youth baseball leagues in the country, hosting teams from 11 states. Encompassing over 150,000 players from over 900 recreation leagues, the competitive passion for baseball is thriving in the South.

While leagues like Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken and Little League have large paid staffs, Dixie Boys is and always has been 100 percent volunteer run since 1956. Past Atlanta Braves players Jeff Francoeur, J.D Drew, Tim Drew, Mike Hampton, and Rod Gilbreath all got their starts in the Dixie Boys Baseball League.

This local team has worked together this past season, first separately as the Jasper Orioles and the Jasper Braves, then once combined to make the Jasper 15U All-Stars Team. Diligently practicing three to four times per week for the past two months, the boys are ready to play ball.

The team and their families were to begin the eight and a half hour trip to Sterlington on Tuesday. The team is being led by a dedicated group of coaches including Mitchell Brackett, Josh Hayslip, and John Sprayberry.

The team will be playing a minimum of three games against other teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

The roster of Jasper County 15U players includes Aiden Bramlett, Jordyn Campbell, Carson Clark, Nolan Dean, Chase Dunn, Carter Ellison, Mikey Harbins, Landon Hicks, Aidon King, Avery McWhorter, Lucas Sprayberry, Devin Thompson, Jayden Timberman, Trey Vowell, and Bryce West.

The team would like to extend heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the overwhelming support Jasper County has given to the team as they raised funds to get the team to Louisiana. They are so excited about this opportunity to represent on such an elevated stage of the game!
