Willie James ‘Bookie’ Smith

A celebration of life for Willie James Smith, was to be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Smith – Thomas Cemetery, 1000 Goosby Road in Monticello. Rev. Morris Smith, eulogist. Interment at Smith-Thomas Cemetery.

On Friday April 22, 2022, surrounded by his beloved family, our dad was called home to be with his father.

Willie James Smith was born June 14, 1940 in Monticello, to the late James Oneal Smith and Louise Campbell Smith. He was educated in the Jasper County School System. He was a faithful deacon of the Fountain Temple A.M.E. Church of Atlanta. Willie James was known and lived a full life.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whom he held dear to his heart. He met and married his wife, Willie Mae Manning Smith, September 14, 1959 of this 63 year union, four children were born, Cynthia, Brenda, Paula and Rodney.

Willie James was preceded in death by his sister, Eula Smith.

Willie James leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Willie Mae Manning Smith; children, Cynthia Ford (Rufus), Brenda Smith, Paula Smith Lumpkin, and Rodney Smith; grandchildren, Jeffery Smith, Ashley Smith, Joshlyn Olivier, Rodney Smith, London Richards and Myles Lumpkin; great-grandchildren, Daja Johnson and Kelan Smith Jupiter. Also, sister and brothers, Mary Smith, Eddie Smith, Morris Smith, Christine Smith, Johnnie Smith, Norris Smith and a host of other family members and friends.
