Simon Rooks, III
Simon Rooks, III’s earthly life began May 26, 1943 to the parentage of Simon, Jr., and Georgia Clemons Rooks in Monticello. He departed this earthly life on April 8, 2022.
Simon, known as “Sonny” was educated in the Jasper County School System and received his high school diploma in 1960. He attended and graduated in 1964 from Fort Valley State College (University), in Fort Valley, where he received a bachelor of science degree in social studies and education. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Sonny served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1967. He also served in the Army Reserve and retired after 20 years. Upon his retirement from the American Red Cross and the U.S. Postal Service, Sonny provided assistance to disabled veterans.
Sonny was pre-deceased by his parents; sister, Doris Rooks Brumfield, grandparents, great-grandparents, and other extended family members.
Sonny’s memories will remain in the hearts of daughter and husband, Rene’ and Dr. Melvyn Harrington; grandsons, Myles and Mitchell Harrington; sisters, Frances Rooks Trotman and Christine Rooks Walker; aunt, Maureen Clemons; nephews, Eric Hagans and Gladstone B. Trotman, nieces, Shawn Hagans Williams, Talitha Trotman Rios, and Krista Walker Evans; great niece and nephews, stepchildren and step grand/great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Griggs Chapel A.M.E. Church in Monticello on Saturday, April 16, 2022 with visitation at 11 a.m., and service beginning at noon. Masks are required.
Public viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Bernard’s Family Funeral Care, 103 Willie Bailey St., Eatonton, Ga. 31024.
