Canes Look for Improvement

The Jasper County-Monticello High School baseball team continues to try and establish its footing during the early portion of the 2022 season.

The Diamond Canes fell to Stratford Academy 10-0 on February 23 as they managed just three hits. The host Eagles scored four runs in both the first and second innings to take control of the contest.

Myles Proctor worked 4.1 innings for Jasper County-Monticello and recorded two strikeouts. Hunter Hays also pitched two-thirds of an inning.

The Canes fell to Putnam County 9-3 on Friday in a home contest. The game was tied 1-1 going into the fifth inning when Putnam County scored four runs.

Jasper County-Monticello answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth but could get no closer.

Proctor drove in three runs to help lead the offense.

Hays worked four innings and recorded nine strikeouts. Tres Cochran also had three strikeouts.

Once again the Canes struggled offensively managing just three hits.

The team rebounded with a 5-4 win against Lake Oconee Academy in Greensboro on Monday.

The game tied 2-2 going into the sixth inning. The Canes scored three runs for a 5-3 advantage. Lake Oconee County Academy scored two in the bottom of the sixth but would get no closer.

Ethan Lynch drove in two runs and Jackson Taylor had one RBI.

Cochran and Hays both drew two walks while Matthew Maddox had one.

Proctor worked the first five innings and had seven strikeouts. Tom Schilling worked two innings and recorded three strikeouts.

The Canes hosted Mount de Sales on Tuesday of this week and fell 10-4.

Cochran worked 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.

The Cavaliers held a 3-2 lead after the fourth inning but took control with seven runs in the top of the fifth.

The Canes will play Mount de Sales on Friday in Macon at 5:30 p.m. The Region 3-AA schedule begins Tuesday against Southwest-Macon at home, also at 5:30 p.m.
