Hurricanes Rebound With Region Road Win
A strong third quarter helped the Jasper County-Monticello High School boys basketball team to a 63-54 road region win against Bleckley County on Saturday.
The Canes were coming off a one-sided loss to Washington County the previous night.
“We were not in a good place mentally after the tough loss the night before,” coach Chris Pennamon said. “We were not doing what we were supposed to be doing.”
Trailing by 11 to Bleckley County at halftime, Jasper County-Monticello came out of the locker room with a 29-point third quarter.
“Once we took the lead we never looked back,” Pennamon said. “They made some late threes but we were trying not to foul.”
Chaydon Stone led the Canes with 24 points while Kemarion Thomas finished with 15 points, including two key three-pointers in the third quarter. Marlerio Stone also finished in double figures with 14 points.
Jacarion Grier had five consecutive steals in the third quarter to lead the defensive effort.
The win came an 89-49 loss to Washington County. Stone finished with 17 points while Elijah Terrell added 17.
The Canes entered this week fifth in the region.
Pennamon’s team defeated Southwest-Macon 61-52 on the road in region play Tuesday. Marlerio Stone finished with 24 and Thomas added 12. Randy Williams scored eight while Geralynn Benton and Chaydon Stone both scored seven points.
Jasper County-Monticello will travel to Oconee County on Saturday for a makeup game from earlier in the season. The JV boys will play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity game.
