Darlene Whitlock Vinson

A celebration of life for Darlene Whitlock “Lene” Vinson was held Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 at Springfield Baptist Church, 837 Hillsboro St., Monticello, Ga. 31064. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton, pastor; Rev. Dr. Cynthia Jones, eulogist.

From her smile to her caring nature, God has picked a flower that will flourish in Heaven just as she did here on Earth. Darlene Whitlock Vinson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister is now resting home with the Lord. Today, we remember a bright spark in this world that will be deeply missed.

Born April 24, 1958 to the late Odessa Whitlock and Rufus Eubanks she left a void when she departed her earthly home on January 19, 2022.

Darlene Whitlock Vinson attended Monticello High School. Before her health failed, she was employed as a security guard at Georgia Pacific. Throughout her years, her careers have ranged from substitute teaching at the schools in Jasper County, working at the Get-A-Head house, little league baseball coach, mentor to many kids and her special loving nature allowed her to be a caregiver at Starcrest Nursing Home in Conyers.

Darlene was always the life of the party and loved to dance while listening to old school music. When she was not doing crossword puzzles or reading books at home, she was enjoying her boys. The mom of four boys did not mind putting any and everybody in their place. She was a “tell it like it is” woman with a heart of gold and laughter to fill a room. We will miss her words of wisdom, advice, and authenticity. It is with sadness in our hearts and tears in our eyes that we say goodbye.

Preceded in death by her mother, Odessa Whitlock, Darlene leaves to cherish her memories her father, Rufus Eubanks of Atlanta; sons, Thaodis Whitlock and Douglas Whitlock both of Covington, Alonza L. Vinson, Jr. and Amakua L. Vinson, both of Monticello; sisters, Glenetta Whitlock and Rebecca Whitlock of Monticello; 11 additional siblings on her father’s side. Alsos, grandchildren, Cassidy Whitlock, Thaodis Whitlock Jr., Tony Davis, Tierra Whitlock, Markesia Davis and Yasmine Whitlock; nieces and nephews, Glenderick Stewart, Carltavius Jackson, Marella Pennamon, Donterio Digby, Arquavious Whitlock, Tamija Digby, Dorian Whitlock and Kennethia Whitlock; special niece, Ashley Rooks, God-Daughter Victoria McCoy, four great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
