Cougars Learning Early On
The early-season schedule has been tough for the Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team.
In addition, the team had no preseason preparation time as each team member was involved in football until just days before the first game of the 2021-22 campaign.
“We have had the toughest schedule in Class AA,” first-year coach Jimmy Link said. “We have played the top teams in AA and AAA.”
The Cougars (2-4 overall) fell to George Walton Academy 70-60 last Friday at home before dropping a 64-52 road game to undefeated Gatewood on Monday.
“We had a chance to beat George Walton but we turned it over too much,” Link said. “We are still learning right now. We have had to play 2-3 zone instead of man-to-man simply because we didn’t have the overall experience. We are not very deep”
The coach said Luke Welch and Ryan Holder have both played well during the first portion of the season.
