Stephanie Gail Thomas
A celebration of life for Stephanie Gail Thomas was to be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, 514 Funderburg Drive, Monticello, 31064. Rev. Dr. Donna Marie Calix, eulogist; Rev. Reginald E. Jacobs, Sr., pastor.
Ms. Thomas was born on May 24, 1957 in Jasper County to the late Charlie Thomas Jr. and Gertrude Thomas. On Monday, Nov. 22, 2021 at the tender age of 64 years old, Stephanie answered God’s call and transitioned from this life to her heavenly home. Stephanie was the baby girl of 10 children.
Preceding her in death were her brothers and sisters: Lamar Thomas, Steven Thomas, Rafus Thomas, Mary Frances Woods, and Gertie Sue Barron.
She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Davis, and brothers, William “Bro” Thomas (Gloria), Benjamin Thomas (Phyllis), and Arthur Thomas.
Ms. Thomas received her education from Jasper County Training School and graduated in 1975. During high school, she “high stepped” with the majorette team and starred on the girl varsity basketball team. She received numerous awards and recognitions for her athleticism and team leadership abilities. Her effortless layups and zoned defense, awarded her a full basketball scholarship to Paine College in Augusta.
Later, Ms. Thomas also played with the Monticello women’s recreational softball team for many years. This group of ladies were the highlight of Monticello adult sports.
Her determination and drive to be successful not only shined while she was on the court or in the field, it radiated through her parenting, praise and worship, mentorships and being a listening ear to many.
Stephanie was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Her stewardship began in her youthful years. Her love for the church kept her active with singing in the adult choir, participating in fund raisers and supporting the youth activity ministry.
Perhaps she will be remembered best for her character, vibrant spirit, and caring and loving attitude towards others. In her family, she will always be remembered as the life of the party, the one always telling jokes and making people laugh. She loved spending time with her family, listening to music and dancing.
Stephanie will graciously be remembered by her children, Quincy Donte and Arnitra Dione; five grandchildren (Courtland, Qua’Nasia, La’Nasia, Jaice, and Zora) and a great-grandchild, (Ryleigh); lovely Aunt Lillie Bell and Uncle Gene Odom, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family will always miss her energy and smile.
Final arrangements entrusted to Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
