Canes, Lady Canes Have Success in Cross Country

The 2021 cross country season was a memorable one for Jasper County-Monticello team members.

The Lady Canes were second at the Region 3-AA meet and advanced to state. The boys also advanced to state after qualifying at region.

JaKara Tobler paced the Lady Canes at state as she finished 31st overall in 22:36.1 in the GHSA Class AA girls competition. Teammate Brianna Dalton was 43rd overall in 23:18.91.

Kemarion Thomas paced the boys with a top 40 finish in 18:47.67 at the AA state run.

“We couldn’t be any prouder of our success,” coach Dorothy Dalton said. “We have something no other team has. We are family.”

Several team members competed in the Deer Dash the morning after running at state.

“I love these kids,” Dalton said. “They came back out in the cold the morning following state to represent us.”
