JCMS Football Wins in Overtime

An overtime win on the road has kept the Jasper County Middle School football team in postseason contention.

The Middle School Canes defeated Putnam County 36-34 last week for their second victory of the 2021 season.

“It was a very exciting game,” coach Chad Estes said. “Anytime you can beat a rival then it’s a good day. We played well overall. We should have won the game before overtime but we are still glad to get the win.”

The coach said quarterback JaMarkus Thomas had a solid game as did Bryce Jackson. Against Putnam, Jackson ran for two scores, caught another and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Offensive linemen Jordan Campell, Chandler Littleton, Kolin Ragan, Cody Wilkerson and Grayson Danes also played key roles in last week’s victory.

“Our offense line is really playing well,” Estes said. “For us to score as many points as we did, it means our linemen are controlling things.”

JCMS was scheduled to host Loganville Middle School on Wednesday of this week.

“The players are continuing to learn,” Estes said. “They were excited about getting their second win of the season. Now we want them to get their third.”
