Youngster Is First Contest Winner

Hattie McMurry beat out about 100 players in the first week of The Monticello News football contest to be the winner, correctly guessing the winners of 12 of the 15 games listed in last week’s Monticello News.

And, since she was the only one to get as many as 12 right, her name is the only one added to the grand prize honor roll this week.

Hattie’s grandmother Bobbie Jean Ozburn calls her each Thursday night and gets her football picks, then she turns them in to The News.

Since Miss McMurry and Walk Jordan, the son of Walker Jordan at the Bank of Monticello, sponsor of the week, both go to Strong Rock Christian School, young Mr. Jordan presented Miss McMurry with her prize at school Tuesday.

Hattie picked up a $25 prize from Walk for being the winner in this first week.

The next closest entrants each had 10 right—Wayne Rye, David Wease, Jr., Danny Tumlin, and Karen Key. However, 10 is not enough for honor roll, so they must keep trying to make the honor roll for the grand prize drawing—tickets for four to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

This week, all players get another chance at the $25 weekly prize, and a chance to get their names on the honor roll for a chance at the Chick Fil-A/Peach Bowl tickets. And, there’s pro games this week!

All one has to do is turn to page 8 of today’s newspaper, fill out the form, and submit it to The Monticello News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 10. Entries may be submitted in person at 247 West Washington Street, by fax at 706-468-6576, or by email to info@themonticellonews.com.
