Cars Collide in Town; Chase Ensues Sunday

In an accident on Friday, Sept. 3, Kerri Bonner of Monticello was driving a 2020 black Ford Fusion, and Jared Seals of Covington was in Monticello driving a 2006 red Jeep Cherokee, according to the report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

Mr. Seals stated he was traveling north on Church Street when he proceeded to cross W. Washington Street, and was struck on his passenger side, back corner, by a black in color vehicle.

Ms. Bonner said she was headed west on West Washington Street when she struck the vehicle as it attempted to cross West Washington Street. Mr. Seals vehicle had three occupants and no one complained of injuries.

Ms. Bonner’s vehicle was occupied by one-year-old female who was taken to JMH for minor injuries.

Sunday saw some excitement for law enforcement, as there were numerous calls on Sunday afternoon, some of which overlapped. In one call on Sunday Sept. 5, at approximately 7 p.m., a deputy with the JCSO attempted to conduct a vehicle stop after observing a traffic violation on the square. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle traveled Hwy. 16 East into Putnam County.

Once a safe area was identified, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Deputy terminated the stop by executing a (P.I.T.) Precision Immobilization Technique Maneuver on the vehicle. No one was injured and the driver, Jeremy Manning, 31, of Eatonton, was arrested and charged with passing in a no passing zone, failure to yield, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officers, reckless driving, failure to stop at stop sign, and failure to maintain lane.

Other persons arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:

•Jessie James Gude, Jr., 54, Monticello—pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Gartenor Donnell Leaks, 31, Griffin—criminal trespass (two counts), and cruelty to children 3rd degree (two counts).

•Kenneth Cody Anderson, 25, Baxley—Jasper County Superior Court failure to appear bench warrant (three counts).

•Ashley Nicole Miglets, 31, Hampton—probation violation.
