Mrs. Josephine Moore

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Collier Moore were held July 17, 2021 at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Eulogist Rev. Jerry Williams. She died July 13, 2021 at Coliseum Hospital in Macon.

Mrs. Moore was born in Butts County on August 24, 1944 to the late Willie B. Collier and Lizzie Lue McDowell Collier.

She was married to Willie J. Moore in January 1971 and celebrated 50 years of marriage earlier this year.

A great cook, Mrs. Moore worked many years at Rio Vista Seafood Restaurant in Atlanta. Later she became a well-liked housekeeper in several homes. She joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Jackson at an early age and often attended and always supported the New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello where her husband is chairman of the Deacon Board and her son-in-law is pastor.

Mrs. Moore also visited and supported Maddox Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro with her children. She loved serving the Lord by reading the Bible and listening to gospel music in addition to drawing, cooking, watch cooking shows and westerns especially “The Lone Ranger.”

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Luther Collier, Benny Collier, Jerry Collier, and Mattie Mae Head.

Survivors include her husband; son, Charles Collier (Shanthea); daughters, Maxine Collier Williams (Jerry), Jackie Jackson (Derwin), Amy Moore, and Nancy Moore, all of Monticello; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Willie Floyd Collier (Ann); sisters, Martha Ann Moore (Bobby, Sr,) and Carrie Lue Collier of Jackson; aunt, Jewell Lee Fears of Jackson; uncle, Abraham McDowell “Uncle Ball” of Austell; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
