Football Teams Approach New Season
Summer work continues for both the Jasper County-Monticello High School and Piedmont Academy football teams.
Both programs enter their respective 2021 seasons with new head coach. Aaron Pitts is entering his first season with the Canes while Clint Satterfield will direct the Cougars.
Pitts and Satterfield both have been pleased with how their athletes have worked during the offseason and are eager to see how the new season plays out.
Jasper County-Monticello will scrimmage Jackson High School on Friday, Aug. 13 on the road before opening the regular season against Mount de Sales at home August 20.
The Region 3-AA schedule then begins for the Hurricanes September 3 against Putnam County High School on the road before a home region contest against Morgan County on September 10.
Piedmont will host Creekside Christian on August 13 for a preseason scrimmage before venturing to Briarwood Academy in Warrenton the following Friday for the first regular season game of the new season.
The Cougars then face John Hancock Academy September 3 on the road before the home opener on September 10 against Memorial Day.
Both programs have participated in numerous 7-on-7 events this summer. The coaches said these workouts with other schools have helped their players learn their respective new offensive schemes
.
Players for both schools have also been busy in the weight room since the end of the previous school year.
COVID-19 has not caused the amount of havoc it did a year ago. Teams have been able to conduct traditional summer workouts with little, if any, restrictions.
