Evans Chatman
A celebration of life for Evans Chatman, who died June 16, 2021, was held June 21 at Kings Chapel Community Church Cemetery in Hillsboro. Rev. Ricky Hammond officiated.
Mr. Chatman was born in Hillsboro on August 2, 1949 to the late John Thomas and Becky Lou Hunt Thomas.
Mr. Chatman was always a family man. He loved his children and grandchildren. Chat started logging at an early age. He logged for 50+ years. He loved being out there in those woods. Chat could tell you the name of every tree, what it was used for and where it was going. Logging was the one thing he loved as much as family. Mr. Chatman was a skidder driver for OTC Trucking until the Lord saw fit to call his angel home to live eternal with him.
His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Dad was a humble man, loving respectful, and loved hanging out at John’s store with his friends.
Mr. Chatman attended many churches. If you really knew him, he was a praying man. The last church he attended was St. John C.M.E. Church where he sat in the Amen Corner,. He would always talk to God, walking around humming church songs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 16 years, Elizabeth Dudley Robinson Chatman; sister and brothers, Mamie Bland, Gladys Thomas, Annie Johnson, Kate Lane, Emma Lou Conwell, Geneva Digby, Minnie Lee Thomas, Frank Thomas and Jimmy L. Thomas.
