Deputies Investigate Fraudulent Activity

Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) have been busy investigating numerous reports of fraud in the last couple weeks.

A resident on Yancey Road reported sending money for an AKC teacup poodle, only to be requested to send more money. Then, a clerk at Tyson’s Country Store on Hwy. 11 north reported the receipt of several counterfeit bills.

A resident on Starling Drive reported purchasing an item online, and the seller never delivered. Deputies also responded to a report of forgery on Sands Drive. A man had received a check that he first deposited, then realized it may not be legitimate, and contacted authorities who determined it was not.

Deputies also responded to reports both of a stolen vehicle and a recovered vehicle. The stolen vehicle was out of Adgateville, and was allegedly taken by an acquaintance. The vehicle was subsequently recovered. In the case of the recovered vehicle, the car had been in possession of one person since 2016, but he did not have clear title.
