Richard Lovic Nelson
Richard Lovic Nelson, age 87, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Richard L. Nelson was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. He was born on December 5, 1933 to the late R.L. Nelson and Alma McMichael Nelson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his constant companion and wife of 64 years, Mary Ann Smith Nelson; great-grandson, Jackson Carter; and sister, Joyce Cooper.
Richard served in the U. S. Army. He was a former member of Liberty Methodist Church and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Richard owned and operated the family poultry and cattle farm. He worked for the Bobbin Mill in Monticello and retired as a machinist from Georgia Pacific Corporation.
Richard enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR racing, watching football and Gunsmoke and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Ricky (Karen) Nelson of Commerce, Linda (David) Jacoppo of Marietta and Jody (Cecil) Fowler of Linwood, NC.; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Don) Wasilewski, Leslie (Nick) Carter, Michael Jacoppo, Mary Ashley Jacoppo, Matthew Fowler and Christopher Fowler; great-grandchildren, Aidan Cooksey, Cameron Carter and Gracie Carter; and brother, Hugh (Marie) Nelson of Monticello.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at West View Cemetery. Pastor David Williams will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Nelson, Ethan Nelson, Will Mann, Chris Bullock, Donnie Cason, Nick Carter and Charles Brock.
