Three Advance to State Track Meet
Graeme Williams led the Jasper County-Monticello High School boys track state at state sectionals last Saturday.
Williams was fourth in the 200-meter dash finals in 22.41 and fifth in the 100-meter dash finals in 11.26.
Coach Chris Pennamon said if Williams turns in a strong performance at state he could find himself on the medal stage.
Kaidon Whidby was 10th in the 200-meter dash (23.50) and Geralynn Benton was 10th in the triple jump (40-1.5)
Kemarion Thomas finished 13th in the 800-meter run in 2:21.52.
JaKara Tobler finished fourth for the Jasper County-Monticello girls in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.57. Tobler was 10th in the 800-meter run at 2:48.48.
Brianna Dalton was eighth in both the 1,600-meter run (6:09.83) and the 3,200-meter run (14:38.95).
Tobler and Dalton will compete at the state meet this week. The top eight finishers at sectionals qualify for state.
Oriayha Thurman finished ninth in the 200-meter dash (28.03) while teammate Ariana Johnson was 11th in the event (28.40). Thurman was also 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 14-10.
Johnson was 14th in the 100-meter dash in 13.67 and the long jump (14-10). Marly Sands was 14th in the discus (62-0).
The sectionals included athletes from Region 1, 2, 3 and 4-AA and took place in Dublin.
The state track meet will be today through Saturday at McEachern High School.
