Minnie Lee Thomas

Minnie Lee Thomas, age 80, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021, at Grady Health System in Atlanta.

Minnie Thomas was born in Hillsboro on May 18, 1940, to the late John Thomas and Becky Lou Hunt Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Mamie Bland, Gladys Thomas, Annie Johnson, Kate Lane, Emma Lou Conwell, Frank Thomas, Geneva Digby and Jimmy L. Thomas.

Almost 70 years ago, Minnie became an important part of Crawford and Audrey Ezell’s family, helping raise three rambunctious boys- Jimmy, Marshall, and Frank – and their granddaughter Emily. Only Jimmy and Emily and their families remain to mourn Minnie’s death. The other four met her with great rejoicing on Monday night, May 3.

For 65 years, this wonderful and much loved lady brought her dedication and service to God to Monticello Presbyterian Church. She worshiped as she went about her daily activities there of polishing silver, dusting the sanctuary, and working in the kitchen. There was no part of the building she did not care for and cherish, but the sanctuary remained her special place to make shine.

However, it was in the church nursery that she truly became an angel among us. She loved generations of church babies and toddlers as they snuggled close to her, buried their heads in her warm embrace, and soaked up her abundant love. Her voice was a lullaby. To know Miss Minnie was to know love.

This humble loving woman always gave God the glory as she sought to serve Him at church and in the community. Most Presbyterian children called the church “Minnie’s church,” and no more sacred name could it have had. She was a beloved friend to every generation. She loved to sew, cook and hold babies.

No person was ever more prepared to meet Jesus than Minnie Thomas.

She is survived by her brothers, Evan Chatman of Monticello and Robert L. Thomas of Eastman; numerous nieces and nephews including Cristy Clark, Joann Clark, Dorothy Clark and Sharon Thomas all of Monticello; and adopted family, Jimmy (Debbie) Ezell of Marietta and family and Emily (Colin) McGann and family of Senoia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Monticello Presbyterian Church. A private family Interment will be held in Kings Chapel Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Rev. Jon Van Deventer will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Monticello Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Presbyterian Church for the Nursery, P. O. Box 308, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
