Laura Thompson Is Named WPES Principal
Laura Thompson, current Assistant Principal at Washington Park Elementary School, has been named the new Principal of the school effective July 1, 2021, announced Jasper County Schools Superintendent Kenny Garland.
She will replace Dr. Susan Stone who will be moving to Central Services for the upcoming school year.
Ms. Thompson has served the Jasper County Charter System as an Assistant Principal since 2016. All of her administrative service in the county has been at Washington Park. Before becoming an Assistant Principal at the school, she served as a fifth grade and Early Intervention Teacher for three years at the school (2013-2016).
Degrees held by Ms. Thompson include a Bachelors of Science from the University of Georgia, a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Georgia College and State University, and an Educational Specialist Degree, also from Georgia College and State University.
Ms. Thompson also previously served as a classroom teacher in Pre-K, Kindergarten and third grade. She also served as Head of School in Eatonton, and Pensacola, Fla. during her career.
“Ms. Thompson brings a tremendous amount of leadership experience to the role at WPES,” said Supt. Garland. “Her current service as an administrator at the school will provide the opportunity for a seamless transition as we begin next year.”
