Canes, Lady Canes Tennis Compete at Region, State
The Jasper County-Monticello High School tennis teams both had strong seasons this spring on the court.
Seniors Azure Guli and Bailey Jenkins helped lead the Lady Canes to a third-place finish at the recent Region 3-AA tournament. This allowed the team to advance to state competition where the Lady Canes competed against East Laurens High School of Dublin.
The varsity boys, led by seniors Gavin Jacobs, Cody Brimberry and Connor Keesee, also went into the region tournament as the third seed and then upset Dodge County. The Canes would eventually finish as Region 3-AA runner-up.
The boys then hosted the first round of state on the new school facilities against Swainsboro High School.
While the official 2021 season for the Jasper County-Monticello varsity tennis is now complete, the teams will take the court one more time where it will be boys against girls during senior night in the first week of May.
The teams are coached by Patty Cole and Amy Fontaine.
Also competing at the varsity level this season were Jake Tingler, Noah Pitts, Joe Zimmerman, Pate Carnes, Zach Tomlin, Mallorie Ferguson, Kate Schilling, Jenna Parrish, Lucy Johnston, Lindsey Thomas, M’Kayla Middlebrooks and Sarah Carnes.
