Diamond Cougars Earn Non-Region Win
The Piedmont Academy varsity baseball team returned to action following spring break on Tuesday and earned a 4-2 home non-region win against Class AAA Westfield.
Senior Cameron Mobley earned the win working five innings and recording seven strikeouts. The Hornets managed only three hits in the contest. David Bishop closed out the final two innings.
At the plate the Cougars benefited from two hits by Jeb Satterfield and Tanner Locklear. John Reasoner and Locklear both drove in runs. Locklear also had two walks, two RBI and a stolen base.
Piedmont took a 1-0 lead after the second inning and added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth. Westfield’s lone two runs came in the top of the fifth inning.
“We came out and played pretty well offensively,” coach Matt Britt said. “It wasn’t great necessarily but not bad either.”
Westfield had the bases loaded in the seventh innings but could not even the score or take the lead.
“This was a good win for us,” Britt said. “They got us earlier in the year partly because we kicked it around some. We only made one error today and you can live with that.”
Britt’s team will host Solid Rock for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. today, April 15. The Cougars will then host Windsor Academy Friday in region play at 4:30 p.m. Piedmont will travel to Calvary Christian on Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest.
