Deputies Investigate Complaints
Jasper County deputies are investigating several complaints of financial identity card fraud that took place in the last week.
In addition, two separate burglaries were reported that were solved within a short time.
Last Sunday, March 28, just before midnight Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted by the communications center of a vehicle pursuit, initiated by Butts County in their jurisdiction that was entering Jasper County. Deputies set up on Hwy. 16 West of Monticello and deployed Stop Sticks in an attempt to terminate the pursuit.
Jasper County deputies were successful in deflating the tires of the fleeing vehicle subsequently ending the pursuit. Jasper County deputies also recovered an amount of suspected marijuana that was discarded from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Also, on Tuesday, March 30, the last of the seven suspects was arrested as the result of the investigation into the church vandalisms off of Concord Church and New Hope Roads.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to make everyone aware of a recent scam. In this scam, citizens are receiving emails and phone calls indicating that someone has hacked their Amazon account. Once the citizen speaks with the scammer they ask for money to be paid to them via gift cards.
Don’t fall for this scam, and please remember that you are not being rude by taking steps to protect your financial identity. No legitimate company is ever going to call you and ask to be paid for anything in gift cards. If you suspect that you may have received a fraudulent email, you are always welcome to contact the Sheriff’s Office if you have any questions about how you should proceed.
