Superior Court Sentences Include Jail Time for Five
Tuesday’s Jasper Superior Court criminal session resulted in five defendants receiving jail time for their charges under the jurisdiction of Judge Terry Massey.
Daniel J. Kelly was sentenced to 10 years with the first 270 days in Jasper County jail but suspended upon entry into a substance abuse treatment program for violating previous probation terms by incurring three charges including possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana (less than an ounce). He was fined $1,000.
Andre G. Tobler had his probation revoked to 180 days in jail but suspended upon entry into a state probation detention center for 90-120 days for three new charges of theft by taking. He will then serve 24 months on probation. He was fined $300 and ordered to pay restitution of $350.
Blake A. Barnell was sentenced to one year with the first 15 days in jail for driving under the influence with three other charges nolle prossed. He was fined $1,000, ordered to complete DUI risk reduction class, and credited with nine days of time served.
Terry L. Thompson had his probation revoked to 60 days in jail for failure to abide by previous probation conditions.
Jonquavis Dumas had his probation revoked to 30 days in jail which was suspended upon completion of four weeks of substance abuse classes beginning this week.
During the March 9 session of the Jasper Superior Court preceedings Judge Brenda Trammell presided over the motion day and criminal calendars. Those sessions resulted in James G. Holcombe being sentenced to 25 years with the first five in confinement for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and fleeing or attemting to elude a police officer. A charge of trafficking methamphetamine was nolle prossed. He was credited with time served since April 2019 and upon serving his five year term will be eligible for probation. He was fined $2,000 and once paroled must enter into and successfully complete the Isaiah House.
Other action include a bond order for Kayla Marie Smith for a possession of methamphetamine charge. Upon release for Walton County, she must enter into a long-term in-patient substance abuse treatment facility approved by the probation office.
Also William W. Garvey was granted a probation modification for a violation which requires entrance into an in-patient substance abuse treatment program.
