District 1 Commission Election Is Tuesday

Early voting for next Tuesday’s special election to fill the unexpired term of former District 1 County Commissioner Carl Pennamon ends tomorrow, with only 76 having voted so far.

Early voting tomorrow, March 12, is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Polls will be open Tuesday, March 16, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The only polling place available for this special election is the Courthouse as that is where voters in District 1 vote.

Jennifer Allen and Sheila Jones are seeking the seat vacated by the death of Commissioner Pennamon last year. There are about 1,700 registered voters in the district.

Also, Chief Registrar Carole Norris advised there is not a drop box for absentee ballots. They must be mailed in or delivered in person to the Registrar’s Office in the Courthouse.
