Canes, Lady Canes Begin New Track Season

Both the Jasper County-Monticello High School varsity girls and boys track teams had several standout performances in their 2021 season debuts.

For the Lady Canes, JaKara Tobler won the 800-meter run in 2:53.80.

Brianna Dalton had a strong showing in both distance events winning the 1,600-meter run in 6:44.20 and the 3,200-meter run in 14:36.

Geralynn Benton won the high jump for the boys with a mark of 5-08.

The event also included West Lauren, Strong Rock, Lamar County and Mary Persons.

•Oriayha Thurman, fourth place, 100-meter dash, 14.47

•Sands, fourth place, shot put, 28-05.50

•Pelley, fourth place, 3,200-meter run, 16:27

•Jackson, fourth place, discus, 61-01

•Brooklyn Dalton, fifth place, 1,600-meter run, 7:13

Top performers for the Jasper County-Monticello boys included:

•Shamarian Greene, second place, long jump 17-11.75

•Kemarion Thomas, fourth place, 800-meter run, 2:24.36

•Thomas, fifth place, 400-meter dash, 58.11

•Malerio Stone, sixth place, 300-meter hurdles, 52.54

•Benton, seventh place, 100-meter dash, 12.32

•Tyler Banks, seventh place, 200-meter dash, 26.08

•Nolan McMichael, seventh place, discus, 93-05

The Canes and Lady Canes will compete at Social Circle High School on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
