Fugitive Is Caught

On Tuesday, Feb. 16, at approximately 4 p.m., a deputy sheriff with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) observed a black mustang that was the subject of a bolo (be on the lookout) from Putnam County on East Greene Street near Ameris Bank.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the black Mustang. Unfortunately, the driver of the Mustang refused to stop and chose to take the deputies on a high speed chase up Post Road, according to a report from the JCSO. The driver of the mustang wrecked at a residence off Post Road and fled from the scene into the woods. JCSO deputies established a perimeter around the area, and called in Department of Corrections K-9s and began alerting residents who were home in the area of the activity.

Deputies were notified (by the residents of the area), approximately two hours after the chase began that he was spotted in a yard off Calvin Road. Malik Cole was taken into custody in a field adjacent to the yard off of Calvin Road moments later.

Pending charges in Jasper County for Malik Cole include fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, theft by receiving (a motor vehicle), theft by receiving (a firearm), reckless driving, and criminal damage to property in the second degree.
