Lady Canes Close Out Season on Friday

The Jasper County-Monticello Lady Canes basketball team took one on the chin last Saturday against Bleckley County at home.

The Lady Canes were defeated 85-30 in Region 3-AA action. Jazmine Thomas led the team with 12 points. Hailie Tripp added 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Kate Robinson added six points, including one basket from 3-point range.

The game was competitive early with the Lady Royals leading by just two points (14-12) after the first quarter and by 10 at halftime. The second half proved to be the difference as Bleckley County outscored the Lady Canes 22-7 in the third quarter and 33-3 in the final quarter.

Depth has been a weakness this season for Jasper County-Monticello as the team is undergoing a rebuilding process.

The Lady Canes will complete the 2020-2021 season Friday, Feb. 12 with a road region game at Bleckley County. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
