Basketball Canes Remain In Chase for Region
As the final stretch of the regular season approaches, the Jasper County-Monticello varsity boys remain very much in the thick of things for Region 3-AA.
The Canes earned another region win Friday by defeating Lamar County 53-40 in Barnesville. Landon Bonner led the team with 20 points.
Last Saturday the team lost a close 47-43 non-region game at home against Putnam County High School.
“It was one we should have had,” Pennamon said. “We couldn’t hold the lead in the fourth quarter.
Saturday was Senior Night and seniors Keon Maddox, Austin Cumbess and Christian Vaughn were each recognized.
The Canes hosted Northeast-Macon Tuesday in a 3-AA matchup falling 59-38. While disappointed with the loss, Pennanon said his team simply needs to keep battling each game.
“We need to win the games we should,” the coach said. “Then if we can pull off an upset in some of the remaining games we aren’t favored in, then we should be OK.”
Jasper County-Monticello is now 4-9 overall and 4-3 in the region.
The team travels to Washington County on Friday.
