Varsity Lady Hurricanes Struggle with Region Foes
Jasper County-Monticello’s varsity girls basketball team ran into two tough region opponents last weekend.
The Lady Canes (1-6, 0-3) fell to Dodge County 67-18 on the road Friday before dropping a 54-12 contest at home the following day against Washington County.
In Friday’s game, Jazmyne Thomas scored 15 of the team’s 18 points. Hailey Tripp scored two points and Madison Smith added a free throw.
The following day Tamara Reeves and Aryana Johnson both made 3-pointers for the Lady Canes while Tripp, Thomas and Kate Robinson each scored two points.
Despite the two losses, first-year coach Robert Strong said the team continues to work hard to improve each week.
The Lady Canes were scheduled to host region foe Bleckley County on Tuesday of this week but the game was postponed.
The Jasper County-Monticello varsity girls are scheduled to travel to Lamar County on Friday for a 6 p.m. region game. The team will then host Putnam County Saturday in a non-region match-up,
