Deputies Seek Perpetrators

During the week of January 3-9, 2021, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office experienced a Covid-19 outbreak.

More than half of the inmates tested positive, and a number of inmates were released due to medical complications. Some inmates have been transferred to out of county facilities. Some inmates were placed on house arrest. Some were conditionally discharged, and some inmates remain at the local detention center.

The National Guard was requested to assist with a decontamination of the entire facility. The sheriff said operations have now returned to normal.

However, only one person was arrested this week, and that was Alexis Garcia-Olguin, 23, Shady Dale—battery (two counts and affray (two counts).

Deputies investigated several incidents in the last two weeks, including the theft of a catalytic converter from an address on Hwy. 16 west, theft by deception on Edison Lane, and a stolen IRS stimulus check from Edwards Mobile Home Park. Also, a resident on Martin Luther King Jr. drive reported the theft of an antique metal outdoor chair, and someone on Alcovy North reported the theft of Rachel Ray dog food.

Also in that neighborhood, perpetrators were caught on a home’s ring doorbell taking a package off the porch.

The previous week there was a report of a piece of heavy equipment taken from an address on Hwy. 11 North near Herd’s Creek; appliances were taken from a building on Alexander Road, and a pressure washer and other equipment was taken from an address in Turtle Cove.

In addition, deputies investigated several reports of identity fraud.

Deputies are actively working the cases, and appreciate the assistance of others in the area. Anyone with information on these cases, or any other cases, is asked to call the TIPS line at 706-468-5276.
