Canes, Lady Canes Qualify for Cross Country State Meet

The Jasper County-Monticello High School boys and girls cross country teams both qualified for the upcoming GHSA Class AA state meet as a result of their performances at region last week.

It is the first time both the varsity boys and varsity girls have qualified for state in the same season.

The Canes and Lady Canes both turned in strong enough performances at last week’s Region 3-AA meet in Cochran as the girls were second overall in the team standings while the boys took fourth place.

The state meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at Carrollton High School.

Individual times for the Lady Canes included:

•Brianna Dalton, 8th, 25:27

•JaKara Tobler, 10th, 27:12

•Brooklyn Dalton, 11th, 27:22

•Julia Proctor, 14th, 29:02

•Chelsey Pelley, 18th, 32:41

•Karen Lara, 19th, 32:42

•Tammy Canterbury, 20th, 33:23

Bleckley County was the overall winner in the girls division with team members taking first through seventh place.

Individual finishers for the Cane boys were:

•George Smith, 20th, 22:35

•Dakota Brimberry, 24th, 23:23

•Randy Jenkins, 26th, 24:19

Bleckley County was first overall in the team standings for the boys meet followed by Lamar County, Washington County, Jasper County-Monticello, Northeast-Macon and Southeast-Macon.
