Theron Smith Edwards

Theron Smith Edwards, age 89, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020, at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.

Theron Edwards was born on March 2, 1931 to the late Homer Theron “H.T.” Edwards and Ethel Smith Edwards. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

He married the late Eleanor Lucretia Willis Edwards in 1957 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death in 2015. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Baker.

Theron served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member and Elder of the Monticello Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM, American Legion Post 110, Monticello Jaycees and a former City Councilman. He served as the Monticello Fire Department Fire Chief for a number of years.

Theron retired from the city of Monticello in 1993. He owned and operated a dairy farm and Monticello Hardware Company; and worked for Georgia Pacific.

He is survived by his children, Carole (Billy) Norris and Theron Smith “Ed” Edwards, Jr. of Monticello; grandchildren, Zachary William Norris of Monticello and Kerri Lucretia (Chris) Moseley of Monticello; great- granddaughter, Ella Ann Norris of Monticello; and sister, Emma Laura Edwards-Smith-Morrison of Clarkesville.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Thursday, August 20, at West View Cemetery. Rev. Jon Van Deventer will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Cal McElheney, Bobby Jacobs, Doug Lewis, Sam McCowan, John Stork and Don Kelly.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Presbyterian Church P. O. Box 308, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
