Lady Cougars Set for New Softball Season

Despite the craziness it has endured this summer, the Piedmont Academy softball team is set for a new season.

The Lady Cougars will open the 2020 campaign on Tuesday at home against Loganville Christian Academy at 5 p.m. The team, coached by Joe Johnson, returns the bulk of its roster and are looking to make another postseason run.

After the season opener, Piedmont will host Georgia FCA for an August 15 doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.

Team members began working in June for the new softball season. The number of practices per week has increased since July. The team has had to deal with various practice restrictions due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

Johnson said his players have done their best to simply concentrate on softball and the new season. Lamar Bradford and Mitch McEwen are assisting Johnson with the varsity fast-pitch team.

Players on the 2020 varsity roster include McKayla Arnold, Kylee Keck, Haley Ann Frank, Carlie Wilbanks, Marissa Holder, Jayden Young, Angela Gabriel, Emily Whitwell, Abby Arnold, Emily McEwen, Maddie Waddleton, Ellie McCart, Teagan Satterfield, Haiden Crews, Melanie Karoffa, Bailey Mobley, Avery Camp, MaLynne Webb and Fleming Sealy.

Piedmont’s Middle School softball team is scheduled to open its new season Thursday against John Milledge Academy at home at 6 p.m. The Middle School Lady Cougars will then travel to Strong Rock on Monday for a 6 p.m. contest.

The Middle School team is coached by Dustin Karoffa and Ron Holder.
