Accused Murderer Is Arrested Here
Jasper County arrested and booked an accused murderer Monday night, then transported him to Newton County to face charges of murder, felony murder, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit a crime.
Alex Khalil Smith of Monticello is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Cassandra Arnold.
On Wednesday, July 8, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Newton County deputies responded to a call referencing penetrating trauma on White Birch Drive in Covington. Upon arrival, the victim, Cassandra Arnold, age 32, from Conyers, was found with penetrating wounds. Ms. Arnold sustained several gunshot wounds; she was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Also in Jasper County, a Ruger 380 was reported taken from an address on Waxwing Drive, and there was a report of cash taken from an address on Smith Street. Another burglary was reported on Late Rise, near Jackson Lake, and there was also a report of theft by deception at a Newborn address.
Persons, other than Mr. Smith, arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:
•Robert Steven Hall, Jr., 34, Covington—false statements or writings, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, brake light violation and driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Eric James McMichael, 18, Shady Dale—burglary-1st degree and vandalism to a place of worship (two counts).
•Justin Lee Ash, 30, Monticello—simple battery.
•Timothy Brooks Vaughn, 39, Monticello— driving while license suspended or revoked and stop sign violation.
•Kyle Allen Smith, 19, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to dim headlights.
•Obie Kester Lucky, 40, Monticello—possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, public indecency, failure to maintain lane and obstruction of a law enforcement officer and speeding.
•Gary Dewayne Morris, 47, Newborn—parole violation.
•Deborah Moger Tinsley, 32, Shady Dale—possession of methamphetamine.
•Brittnee Leigh Barber, 28, Blairsville—wanted in Union Co.
