Covid-19 Cases Rise in Jasper this Week

Jasper County is up to 39 Covid-19 cases as of Tuesday evening, according to daily report from the North Central Health District (NCHD), part of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

The current number is nearly a 20 percent increase from last week’s reported 32 cases. The NCHD, which serves individuals residing in 13 Central Georgia counties including Jasper, releases each county’s statistics on Monday for the week prior.

Since the week prior, Jasper County’s collection of specimens for testing has risen by 51 percent up to 128 collections from 85 in the week prior. Jasper had the second largest increase in testing completed by the NCHD in the district, trailing Jones County which had a 72 percent increase in specimens collected. Testing is completed in Jasper on Tuesdays and Friday’s only at the Jasper County Health Department from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Within the district, Baldwin and Wilkinson counties have been flagged as current areas of concern from the past week with regards to Covid-19. In Baldwin, Central State Hospital has seen the highest concentration of cases with 97 total including eight hospitalizations and two deaths. Wilkinson County saw increases due to cases at two personal care facilities.
