Jasper On Record For 32 Covid-19 Cases, One Death

The North Central Health District (NCHD), part of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), reports that Jasper County has had 32 Covid-19 cases of record which include four hospitalizations and one death related to the illness.

The NCHD serves individuals residing in 13 Central Georgia counties including Jasper. Each week the organization provides a report of Covid-19 statistics thus far.

As of May 3, 2020, the district expanded testing to all 13 of the county health departments including Jasper. Since that time the organization reports the collection of 85 specimens locally as of Sunday. That number reflects a 27 percent increase in testing since the week prior beginning May 17. Testing is completed in Jasper on Tuesdays and Thursdays only at the Jasper County Health Department.

The cases in Jasper County associated with an outbreak account for 13 percent of the cases county-wide. The other 87 percent of cases reported in Jasper County have not been attributed to a single area of concern and represent community level spread within the county.

Within the district, four counties have been flagged as current areas of concern from the past week with regards to Covid-19. Those areas include Hancock County have seen an increase in cases from two area nursing homes and a state prison; Houston County also saw an increase which has two detention centers and a nursing home; Monroe County cases increased due to one rehab facility and a nursing home; and Putnam County has seen an increase due to numbers at a health and rehab facility.

The NCHD updates the statistics weekly on Sundays and releases the information on Mondays with post to its NCHD COVID-19 webpage at NCHD52.org/coronavirus
