Deputies Investigate Incidents
Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) investigated several incidents in the last week, and recovered a stolen motorcycle.
They also assisted Monroe and Butts County authorities in the recovery of a kayaker who drowned on the Ocmulgee River over the weekend. Officers with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) handled much of the search and rescue. Divers with Monroe County are who recovered the body.
Devontae B. Griffieth, 23, of McDonough, was recovered Monday near the boat ramp on Hwy. 83 south. Mr. Griffieth and friends were kayaking near Wise Creek in Jasper County Saturday, according to reports.
His was one of three drownings in the state last weekend.
In addition, Items taken this week included lawn and garden equipment from an address on 147th Street, and a tripod spinner feeder and ladder stand from an address on Herd’s Creek Road.
There was also an incident of identity fraud, and a theft by conversion.
Persons arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:
•Roger Aaron Partain, 41, Athens—hold for warrant in Oconee County.
•Larandy Steven Gotel, 38, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
•Allan Mathura, 47, Shady Dale—aggravated stalking and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
•Walter Lee Dorough, Jr., 33, Hillsboro—delivery of prohibited items without consent and inmate in possession of prohibited items without consent.
Deputies also responded to numerous calls for service, including 41 premises check, 22 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, 16 roadway hazard, 14 livestock, 12 subject needs officer, 10 alarm, and numerous other types of calls.
