Pete Thurman, Sr.
Pete Thurman, Sr., was born on April 16, 1954 to the late Willie Lewis Thurman, Jr. and Betty Whitlock Thurman. He departed this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
Pete attended Jasper County Training School. He then traveled on the road as a painter for commercial buildings. After painting, he worked for Mobil Chemical in Covington for 15 years.
Pete was united in marriage to Chandra Thurman of Norfolk, VA on November 23, 1985 and to this union nine children were born.
Pete loved his family. His hobbies were playing pool, fishing and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and listening to Oldies music. His favorite TV shows, that he watched every day, were, In the Heat of the Night,” and “Law and Order.” Pete loved his Pontiac Grand Prix. He also loved the Atlanta Braves, the Falcons and UGA.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers, John Thomas Whitlock, James Thurman and Otis Thurman.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Chandra Thurman; children, Pete (Victoria) Thurman, Jr., Tameika Thurman, Veronica Thurman, Lamont Thurman, Felisha Thurman, Markesse Thurman, Demetris Thurman, Jamall Thurman and Dona (Breyiah) Thurman; three sisters, Annie Mae Jones, Betty Boykin and Mary Ann Farrar (Baron) all of Monticello; four brothers, David Thurman of Columbus, Willie Thurman, III, Johnny Thurman (JoAnn) and Danny Ray Thurman, all of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Deloris Thurman, 33 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a lifetime of friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
