Two Commission Races Contested

Qualifying ended last Friday at noon, with two county commission races contested, and only one constitutional officer race contested.

Chief Magistrate Tim Lam is being challenged by Chrissy Pitts Mason, both of whom have already run announcements in this paper. Sheriff Donnie Pope, Tax Commissioner Angela Walsh, and Coroner Billy Norris, are all incumbents with no opposition. Robert Jordan will serve as County Surveyor.

Clerk of Courts Lynda Gasses is retiring, and no one other than LeeAnn Airington qualified to run for that seat, so Mrs. Airington will be the new Clerk of Courts come January 1, 2021.

Roger Harrison and Stephen Ledford both qualified for the District 5 commission seat being vacated by Doug Luke who did not seek re-election.

As previously announced, incumbent District 3 Commissioner Don Jernigan is being challenged by Pat Tria.

Erin Lynch and Bill Schilling, District 2, and District 4, respectively School Board seats are seeking re-election and are not being challenged by anyone.
