James Henry ‘Jim’ Stewart
A homegoing celebration for James Henry “Jim” Stewart, who died February 28, 2020, was held Saturday, March 7, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 252 Martin Lane, in Shady Dale. Rev. Kerwin Scott is pastor; Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated. Burial was in Reid’s Chapel Cemetery in Eatonton.
Mr. Stewart was born on April 25, 1933 in Monticello to the late Cuff and Henrietta Stewart.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and a son.
Mr. Stewart was educated in the Jasper County school system. He was baptized as a child in the Shiloh Baptist Church where he later served as the chairman of the Deacon Board.
He was a loving husband of 64 years to Ruth Clemons Stewart and a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.
Lovingly known as “Jim the Vegetable Man,” he loved to help people. When God said, “feed my sheep,” he did just that by helping others, “until it hurt.”
He leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Larry (Johanna) Stewart of East Point and Charles (Tojuajna) Parks of Griffin; daughters, Donna (Kenneth) Meredith of Powder Springs, Sharon Stewart of Riverdale, Auidann Buckner of New York, N.Y. , Stephanie Young of Atlanta, Martha Archer, Janice Jones, and Ruby L. Stewart; grandchildren, Egypt, David, Devin, Marcus, Clifton, Jamila, Keira, Keanna, Denise, Audra, Erika and Tanikka. Also a host of great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
