Willie Oscar Wright
A memorial celebration of life for Willie Oscar “Lewis” Wright, who died February 15, 2020, was held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Midway Independent Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Terry Glawson, pastor; Rev. Harry Hardeman, eulogist.
Willie Oscar Wright, also known as Lewis, Slim, Country Boy and Taxi #1299 was born on January 31, 1950 in Kelly, Ga. to the late Tobie Wright and Pinky Ruth Rolle.
Later he attended Jasper County Training School. After being in the Job Corps, he drove trucks for many years. He also drove taxis including Yellow Cabs until 2016.
His favorite pastimes were traveling, spending time with family, playing cards (spades), eating raisin toast with black coffee and “cracking” jokes. He was truly the life of the party.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willie James Freeman and Arthur Lee Rolle.
He is survived by two children, Elshamika Tookes of Rochester, NY and Dustin (Diana) Dixon of Warner Robins; three grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Mae Wright of Shady Dale and Joyce Collins Brown (Eugene) of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; two brothers, Tilman Rolle (Barbara) and Cleveland Rolle (Agnes) all of Ft. Pierce, Fla. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
