Carl Cansino Seeks To Be District Attorney

Carl Cansino has announced his candidacy for District Attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit.

Mr. Cansino resides in Milledgeville, and has been practicing law for nearly 25 years. He was hired by Fred Bright in 1998 as an Assistant District Attorney. In 2004 he entered private practice, and January of this year will mark his 16th year. In 2005 he was appointed by the Milledgeville City Council to serve as City Solicitor, a position that he still holds.

Mr. Cansino’s parents immigrated to the United States in the 1960s from the Philippines. His father is a retired physician (family practice) and his mother is retired from banking. He has one sister who is also an attorney in Cartersville.

Mr. Cansino is married to Jasper County native, Amy Kelly Cansino. She is the daughter of Marsha and James Kelly. We were married in 2006 and we have two children, Sophia (11) and Bryce (9).

Mr. Cansino practices in the area of criminal defense in both state and federal courts and general and civil litigation.

Mr. Cansino has been recognized by The National Trial Lawyers as a Top 100 Trial Lawyers in the area of Criminal Defense. He also has been recognized as a Top 10 Lawyer in Georgia by the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.

He serves on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (GACDL) and holds the office of Regional Vice President. Mr. Cansino’s colleagues in the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, which is Georgia’s largest Judicial Circuit by number of counties, has elected him to serve as a representative to the State Bar of Georgia where Mr. Cansino serves as a member of the Board of Governors. State Bar President, Buck Rogers has appointed him to serve on the SOLACE (Support of Lawyers – All Concern Encouraged) committee and the MLAP (Military Legal Assistance Program). He also serves by appointment as the Municipal Court Prosecutor for the City of Milledgeville.

Mr. Cansino also serves as chairman to the Department of Law’s Advisory Committee on Consumer Protection. A position in which he was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue and reappointed by Gov. Nathan Deal.

Mr. Cansino has represented many high profile cases at both the state and federal level including some with significant media coverage. In addition to success at the trial level, Mr. Cansino has numerous appellate cases reported and errant decisions by the trial court successfully reversed.

Mr. Cansino is active in the community. He serves as a board member for the Twin Lakes Public Library. His firm has also partnered with Lakeview Primary School as a Partner in Education.

Mr. Cansino received his law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School and received his undergraduate degree from the Florida State University and is admitted to practice in all the State Court of Georgia as well as the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
