Ethel Mae Spell Young

Ethel Mae Spell Young, age 88, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at her residence.

Ethel Young was born in Douglas on April 28, 1931, to the late Joshua Thomas Spell and Ethel Wright Spell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Young in 1999; daughter, Gwendolyn Denise Young; grandson, Joshua Luke Young in 2001; and sisters, Juanita Young and Willow Ree Young.

Ethel lived in Forest Park before moving to Jasper County over 26 years ago. She was a member of New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. She enjoyed piecing puzzles together and knitting. Before retirement, she was a hat maker for Bags by Francis.

She is survived by her sons and daughter, Darrell (Cheryl) Young of Douglasville, Tony (Janie) Young of Gastonia, N.C., John and Melanie Young of Mansfield and Vickey Wright of Indiana; grandchildren, Sheri Mathews, Jeremy Young, Michael Wright, David Wright, Kim Wright, Amy Wright, Stephen Walls and Michael Walls; great-grandchildren, Luke Young, Nathan Young, Jake Mathews, Katie Mathews, Olivia Mathews, Megan Young, Logan Young, Jason Young, Lindsey Walls, Hailey Walls, Daniel Walls, Kensleigh Walls, Bryson Walls, Arial Scott and Joseph Scott; brother and sisters, Luther “Pete” Spell of Social Circle, Luvenia Joiner of Georgia, Annie Lee Walls of Fitzgerald and Betty Ruth Long of Nicholas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. Interment will be held at New Bethel Holiness Church Cemetery. Rev. Edsel Young will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Mathews, Jake Mathews, Stephen Walls and Michael Walls.

The family will receive friends at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Fitzgerald prior to the service.
