Mike Sammons

On Friday, December 20, 2019 “Big Mike” made his last tackle.

Mike Sammons was born March 29, 1949 in Atlanta, and died unexpectantly at his residence in Madison.

Known for his love for family, more friends than one could count, Seminole football and his infamous eyebrows, Mike Sammons never met a stranger. From his classmates at Brown High School and buddies from Florida State University to the people he encountered daily, everyone he met became a friend.

He took fashion cues from no one. His signature look was his Tommy Bahama button up shirt, khaki shorts and triple D dock shoes.

Whether taking the field at the “Doak” as a proud Seminole as #67 in the first ever Peach Bowl or later as a member of the Old White Rugby team, he was a lifelong athlete. He loved telling jokes and sharing stories. His infectious laugh and smile would light up the room.

He is survived by his wife Martha Sammons, brother David Sammons, sons and daughters-in-law Robbie and Erica Sammons, Jordan and Sarah Sammons, step-daughters Jennifer Stenander, Christie Avgar, and Shelley Wilkins and 10 grandchildren: Dominick, Preslee, Lennon, Peyton, Lillie, Fischer, Aitan, Ella, Livia, and West.

Heaven gained an angel with a loving heart and boisterous personality. Mike you will be forever missed…. Until we meet again.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the College Football Hall of Fame at 11 a.m.
