Mrs. Victoria ‘Dean’ Smith Glawson
A celebration of life for Mrs. Victoria “Dean” Smith Glawson was held Saturday, Dec. 28, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated; burial was in South View Cemetery.
Mrs. Glawson was born in Monticello on March 23, 1955 to the late John Wesley Smith and Sarah Mae Smith. She departed her earthly home on December 22, 2019.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Louella Smith, and a brother, Charles Smith.
Victoria was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church in her younger years. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1973. She later earned her associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Macon Technical College. Victoria had a strong love for children which inspired her to open her own in-home day care and later, she became a foster parent to 11 children.
She was a dedicated employee at Monticello Manufacturing (Sewing Room) in Monticello for 15 years, and American Woodmark in Jackson for nearly 15 years where she retired in 2017. She was very talented in softball and basketball. She loved cooking and was great at it too. She was well-known for her famous banana pudding.
Victoria Smith Glawson married the love of her life, Arthur Lee Glawson, Jr., on June 7, 1975. This beautiful union led to the birth of two beautiful daughters, Andrea Norman, Lithonia, and Tracie L. Glawson, Monticello.
Victoria leaves to cherish her memories her sweet granddaughters, Courtney C. Norman and Kymberlee A. Norman, Lithonia; a son-in-law, Anthony Norman of Lithonia; four sisters, Hattie R. Smith of Conley, Annie “Liz” (Charlie) Langford of Locust Grove, Sarah A. Smith, Decatur, and Wylene Smith of Decatur; seven brothers, John Wesley Smith, Jr., of Monticello, Franklin (Charlene) Smith, Covington; Robert (Patricia) Smith, Monticello; Ralph Smith, McDonough; Kenneth (Belinda) Smith, Savannah; James (Ethel Mae) Smith, Covington, and Scotty (Joy) Smith, Ellenwood.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
