Ruby Frances King Batchelor

Ruby Frances King Batchelor, age 84, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington.

Ruby Batchelor was born in Apalachee, Ga., to the late James Eddie King and Laura Gladys Hale King. She moved to Monticello in 1953 and married the late Frederick “Freddie” Adair Batchelor on August 7, 1954. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before his death in 2012.

Ruby loved to cook. She worked at the cafeteria at Monticello High School for 10 years and retired from Miss Kay’s Daycare. She was a former Sunday school teacher at Smithboro Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Henry King, Landin King, Clayton King, Horace King and Vivian Butler.

She is survived by her children, Ricky (Lisa) Batchelor of Eatonton, Angela (Gene) Spivey of Monticello and Jane (Scott) Poteet of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Norton, Cliff (Dee) Thomaston, Andrew (Candace) Thomaston, Jeremy Poteet and Melinda (Caleb) Brinkley; and great-grandchildren, Paige Norton, Dillon Norton, Shelby Thomaston, Landon Thomaston and Laney Thomaston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, 2019, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. Charlie Edwards will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cliff Thomaston, Andrew Thomaston, Jeremy Poteet, Jason Norton, Caleb Brinkley and Michael Gotel.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, prior to the service at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations go to Jasper County Food Bank, P. O. Box 254, Monticello, Ga 31064.
